Based in Paris, Badguir was founded in September 2017 as a non-profit organization with the aim of discovering and promoting artists from the Arab world and Iran, particularly those still underrepresented on the international scene. It quickly became a hub for visibility and exchange around rich and often overlooked artistic practices.
Among her first major achievements, the IRAN Photo exhibition, held for four consecutive years in Paris, highlighted the vitality of contemporary Iranian photography. Badguir also helped to restore the reputation of certain artists forgotten in their country of origin, such as the painter Abbas Moayeri, through retrospective exhibitions. She also supported the production of documentary films about cultural figures like Daryush Shayegan, thus affirming her commitment to the transmission of intellectual and artistic heritage.
After a few years' hiatus, Badguir returns today with renewed energy and changes its status to become a fully-fledged art gallery. This turning point marks a firm commitment to supporting Middle Eastern artists over the long term, offering them a professional and socially engaged exhibition space in the heart of Paris.
In this new phase, Badguir is expanding its scope to encompass all visual arts, while continuing to prioritize artists who still live and work in their countries of origin. It also supports artists with migration backgrounds, whose works reflect the richness of their experiences and their cultural roots.
True to its original spirit, Badguir intends to remain an independent, curious and committed place, which gives voice to artists and contributes to making contemporary Middle Eastern creation shine on the Parisian and international art scene.
