Turki Abdul Amir Auda – Between Memory and Exile
Badguir , in collaboration with Art Price Point and Millon, is pleased to present Between Memory and Exile , a solo exhibition dedicated to the modern Iraqi artist Turki Abdul Amir Auda , on view from March 31 to April 4 at Galerie M, Paris . Conceived as a curatorial selection, the exhibition brings together thirty works spanning the artist's early years to the present, offering a rare and nuanced look at a practice shaped by history, displacement, and memory.
Between Memory and Exile marks a major presentation of Auda's work in Paris and offers both a chronological and thematic reading of an artistic journey deeply rooted in the cultural and intellectual history of Iraq and the Middle East . Through painting and works on paper, Auda develops a visual language where symbolism, abstraction, and narrative coexist, reflecting both personal experience and collective memory.
At the heart of the exhibition is the presentation of the first monograph dedicated to Turki Abdul Amir Auda, recently published by Art Price Point . Long awaited, this publication represents a major milestone both scholarly and editorially, offering the most comprehensive overview to date of the artist's career. Bringing together reproductions, critical texts, and archival material, the monograph establishes Auda's place in the history of modern Iraqi art while also opening new perspectives on his work for an international audience.
The publication will be presented within the exhibition , reinforcing the dialogue between the artworks, the research, and the historical context. The artist will be present in Paris during the exhibition and will participate in a public conversation with a moderator—a central moment of the program. This encounter will offer visitors a rare opportunity to engage directly with the artist, discuss his career, and hear his reflections on memory, exile, and artistic practice. A book signing will follow, further emphasizing the publication's importance as a scholarly reference and a living document.
By combining exhibition, publication, and public dialogue , Between Memory and Exile is conceived as much more than a simple presentation of works. It aims to be an invitation to encounter an artist and their legacy , to reflect on the role of art in preserving memory, and to reconsider the place of Iraqi modernism in a global art history.
The exhibition is organized by Millon , Art Price Point and Badguir , whose collaboration reflects a shared commitment to research-based curatorial projects that aim to reconnect artists with contemporary audiences and institutional contexts.
Turki Abdul Amir Auda
Turki Abdul Amir Auda was born in 1941 in Shayk Sa'd, Iraq. A pioneer of the second generation, he is a creative voice guided by emotion, intuition, and the power of color. His work is based on the conviction that color is not just something to be seen, but something to be felt. Every idea is born from a sensation, an atmosphere, a moment of stillness that shapes the creation.
He graduated from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts in 1962, then continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 1974. For many years, he taught painting at the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts, thus contributing to the training of generations of artists.
Rather than following rules or trends, Turki allows feeling to guide her process. From this feeling, ideas naturally arise, evolving into visual expressions imbued with depth, mood, and meaning. Her approach lies at the intersection of art and identity—centered on presence, emotion, and authenticity. Each creation is an extension of an inner state, translated through color, form, and concept.
His work reflects Iraqi culture through masterful classical techniques, creating a bridge between tradition and modern expression. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Iraq, Amman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Paris, Rome, and London—a career marked by dedication, perseverance, and constant artistic evolution.
Today, Turki Abdul Amir Auda's legacy appears as a bridge between heritage and contemporary vision — a work not only to be observed, but to be fully experienced.
